The Rest of Hampden County

Hi followers! I was able to finish up the rest of Hampden County early this afternoon while running around getting errands done, and that puts this project one step closer to its completion. One more major run to be done and then it will be on to the next project. The last firehouse run had to be cut short(see August-below the pike entry) due to time, there were only three stations left on the list in that section to be done. The first one that I stopped at was the Agawam main headquarters, located on Main Street in town. This station is pretty impressive, don't let the shot below fool you. The front facade is only a fraction of the firehouse. In front, there is a memorial for 9/11, and two benches that surround the memorial as well.

To give you an idea of the area of the building, below is a shot from the left side

This firehouse also has the double entry bays, as you can see from the next shot of the right side of the building. Plenty of room for the trucks to get in and out.

With that firehouse completed, an unexpected surprise was in store for me. About a mile away from headquarters, along the way to the next station, I came across the town fire museum, housed in one of the old firehouse locations. Unfortunately, the museum was closed when I was there (of course!), but I'm sure there will be a return visit at some point to explore it. This building is located on Elm Street, right around the corner from fire headquarters.

For those who do not know the area, the next stop was to Feeding Hills, which is technically part of the town of Agawam, but is considered to be a subset of it. It has its own zip code, so as far as I'm concerned, it is a separate location. It is the home to Agawam Firehouse Station 2, and is located on Springfield Street.

Below is a shot of a close up of the trucks

From there, it was time to finally get the third firehouse in the town of Westfield completed, so meandering down back roads I was able to get to the town border pretty quickly, with the exception of the road construction that has been so rampant in the area all summer. The last firehouse in Westfield is on Little River Road, in the Little River community of Westfield.

Pretty cute looking station right? Typically the station is manned by a team of two, and I think it's one of the most decorative firehouses that I have seen in my travels so far. Below is a close-up of one of the trucks.

With that last firehouse, Hampden County is now completed. Only just over a dozen towns remain on the list, which I hopefully will be able to finish before the beginning of next week.
